Duties:
  1. Perpetuates and maintains Section Corners according to Indiana Law (I.C. 36-2-12-11)
  2. Ex-official member of the County Drainage Board (according to Indiana Law).
  3. Manages the Construction, Reconstruction and Maintenance of all County Regulated (Legal) Drains for the County Drainage Board.
  4. Continually called on by public concerning: Land surveying in general, Drainage in general, Property-deed description interpretation, general, County Subdivision Control Ordinance, survey requirements, Types of maps available for the County and City, County Regulated (Legal) Drains, Alley and R/W location.
  5. Member of the County Plan Commission
  6. Maintains files for "Legal Surveys" in County according to Indiana Law (I.C. 36-2-12-10).
  7. Maintains Bench Mark data files.
  8. Maintains Section Corner data files.
  9. Provides horizontal base line data to land Surveyors.
  10. Prepares land surveys at the request of the County Commissioners.
  11. Acts as liaison as to drainage, boundaries, and disagreements at the discretion of the Benton County Commissioners.
  12. Provides plats, topographic Surveys and construction stakeout information upon request.
  13. Member of the Flood Plain Technical Review Committee.
  14. Serves on numerous (10-12) Joint Drainage Boards.
  15. Manages 3 budgets: Surveyor's budget, Drainage Board, Plan Commission
  16. Maintains aerial photos-assists Assessor's Office with land splits.
  17. Maintains County-wide address system: Issues addresses in cooperation with US Postal Service.
Duties of 1st deputy

Essential Functions:

  1. Maintain and update the data files and computer programs
  2. Generate county map system including new plat maps.
  3. Maintain house numbering system and telephone numbers.
  4. Coordinate with the post office the assignment of house numbers to new construction.
  5. Generate transfers and splits according to soil evaluations for the Assessor's Office.

Duties:

  1. Answer questions and provide information for the public
  2. Organize work load and time allotment for jobs.
  3. Monitor budget accounts.
  4. Enter digital mapping procedures on mylars.
  5. Conduct research and development on proposed projects for new drains.
  6. Perform other duties assigned by the County Surveyor.

Job Requirements:

  1. Have a high school diploma (some college preferred).
  2. Must have advanced computer knowledge (including graphics).
  3. Ability to read and disseminate legal documents, descriptions, survey data, calculations.
  4. Have math and drafting knowledge.
  5. Be proficient in keyboarding and be computer literate (including operation of digitizing board and plotter).
  6. Be knowledgeable in GIS.
