| The County Recorder was the first local elected office created by the Constitution of the State of Indiana in 1816. It is the primary duty of the County Recorder to record instruments submitted for recording and maintain those records for perpetuity. | |

| Where can I find birth and death
certificates?
Birth and Death certificates are found in the Cass County Health Department located in the Medical Office Building at Memorial Hospital. Call 753.7760 for more information. | |
| Where can I find Tax Liens and
judgments?
State Tax Liens and judgments of any kind are found in the Cass County Clerk's Office. The Recorder's Office has only Federal Tax Liens located in Rec. Office. | |
| What do I need to do before I have
my document recorded?
Certain documents dealing with land must go to the Auditor's Office to be stamped before recording. It is wise to check with the Auditor's Office prior to attempting to record documents that deal with land. | |
| How do I get a marriage
license?
Marriage and divorce information is found in the Cass County Clerk's Office. | |
| Where can I find forms?
This office does not provide document forms and cannot assist you in preparing them. Consult an attorney, a title company, or persons familiar with real estate record preparation. If you choose to prepare the documents yourself, you may purchase forms at certain stationery stores. It is your responsibility to select the correct form to meet your needs. | |
| How do I perform a search?
Our office does not search services. Our customers search the General Index themselves for recorded documents. Our records are available to the public during office hours. If you cannot come into the office, you may send a representative or contact a title company for assistance. Check the yellow pages for listings. To request copies of recorded documents by mail you must include payment for the copy(ies) and have the recording number or the book and page. To order copies of official records, you will need the recording document number or book and page. You may come in for your copies or write to the Cass County Recorder's Office. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope and the required copy fee. Copy fees are $1.00 for each page. Certification is an additional $5.00 if requested. | |
