Registering to Vote

Guidelines

  1. You must be a citizen of the United States.
  2. You must be 18 years old by the time of the General Election
  3. You must be a resident of your precinct for 30 days prior to the general election.
  4. You do not declare a party affiliation at the time of registration.
  5. No other person may register for you.

How do I register to vote?

You can register to vote in Fountain County at one of the following:

  1. Clerk's office in Covington
  2. License Branch in Veedersburg
  3. WIC Clinic in Covington
  4. When you file your Indiana taxes
  5. Any precinct committee person

When can I register to vote?

You can register anytime however, registration closes 30 days prior to every election.

Voting

When do I vote?

On election day, the polls open at 6:00AM and close at 6:00PM, if you need information on your registration or where to vote, you can call voter registration at 793-2192

Where do I vote?

The following is a list of precincts and their polling places. If you are unsure which precinct you're in you can look on your voter registration card or call the clerks office at 793-2192.

Absentee Voting

  • Absentee voting generally starts 30 days prior to the election
  • Absentee voting is available for anyone meeting the following requirements:
  • Absent from the county on Election Day (College student, military, or will be out of town)
  • Confined person or caring for a confined person
  • Have disabilities
  • At least 65 years of age
  • Official election duties away from your polling place. 
  • Scheduled to work the entire 12 hours at your regular employment.

You may vote absentee by one of the following methods:

  • come to the Clerk's office
  • by mail
  • by traveling board

To request a ballot for absentee voting you must first complete and submit an application for absentee voting. You may request an application by calling the Clerk's office at 793-2192 or by downloading the form from below.

Elections

Filing Requirements for Candidates
  • A candidate for nomination at the Primary election for Fountain County Offices must file a declaration of candidacy in the office of the Fountain County Clerk.

Basic Qualifications for Candidates

  • A person must be a registered voter in the election district to be represented
  • A person is disqualified from holding or being a candidate for an elected office if the person has a) entered a plea of guilty to a felony, or b) been convicted of a felony

Fountain County School Board Elections

  • Attica High School and Covington High School hold their elections in the Spring. Southeast Fountain School elections are held in the fall.
  • The School Board terms are 4 years.
