Where to Apply

Age Requirements

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Applicants age 17 must have parental consent (parents must be present at time of application with identification). Applicants age 15 and 16 must have a court order.

Blood Test

The prospective bride ONLY must have the State of Indiana Pre-Marital Examination Certificate filled out and signed by an Indiana doctor. If the prospective bride can show proof of a previous rubella test, her immunization records, or records of sterilization, the doctor may fill out the State form and sign it. If no records can be obtained, a blood test will be required. In either case, the state form, legibly completed and signed by and Indiana doctor, must be presented to the Clerk's office at the time of application. If the prospective bride is age 50 or older, no medical forms are required.

Fees

If at least one of the applicants is a resident of Fountain county, the fee is $18.00 CASH at the time of application. If both applicants are Non-residents, the fee is $60.00 CASH at the time of application. NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED

Identification

Applicants must show a valid drivers license. If the applicant is not a licensed driver, a state-issued identification card, original birth certificate, military I.D. or passport may be accepted.

Previous Marriage

If there have been previous marriages, the application requires information on the month, year and manner (e.g. divorce, death, annulment) in which the last marriage ended.

Waiting Period

A marriage license can be issued on the same day of application. There is no legal waiting period to obtain your marriage license and no witness are required. If you do not have the necessary requirements on the day you apply, your application will be held for no longer than 60 days. After that time, it will be voided. Once issued, a marriage license is valid for sixty days from the date of issuance during which time the marriage must be performed.

Where to Apply

Indiana residents must obtain a license in the county in which at least one of them resides. Out of State residents must obtain a marriage license in the county in which the marriage will be performed.
