The Highway Department has information about the Steuben Co. road system, its maintenance, right-of-way, ordinances, etc. You can also obtain many permits including Driveway Permit, Utility Permit, Oversize/Overweight Load Permit, and Road Bore Permit.

Notice: Dust control for 2000 - The Steuben Co. commissioners will furnish 200 feet of calcium chloride for residents who live on maintained gravel roads at NO COST. For each additional 100 feet, the Steuben Co. highway department will furnish all labor and equipment to prepare and apply calcium chloride for dust control. There will be a fee of $50 for each 100 feet of calcium chloride. This applies to the year 2000 only.

Fees for Calcium and Road Oil

Calcium chloride 200ft. free in front of each house on a Steuben Co. road. Additional fee is $50 per 100ft. if oil in front of your home is not tore up, there will be a charge to apply calcium. They can not have calcium in front of the home and oil on the ends.

Road oil will be $160 for 200ft. that is the minimum we will apply. Additional oil is $80 per 100 ft. 

Chip and seal for 2001 will be $1200 for 300ft. Additional chip and seal will be $400 per 100ft.

Calcium Chloride may be applied on each end o oil but they will be charged $50 for each 100ft. Chloride is only free when 200ft is applied in front of the house.

Road Bore Permit Rules

  1. If contractor is local we need proof of liability insurance

  2. If contractor is not local we need proof of liability insurance and a certified check or bond for $500

  3. Bond needs to be released after work is done and approved.
