REQUIRED INSPECTIONS /  INSPECTION REQUESTS

FOUNDATION INSPECTION

To be made after excavations for footings are complete and all required reinforcing steel is in place. For concrete foundations, all required forms are to be in place Work shall not be done beyond the point indicated in each successive prior to inspection. All materials for the foundation shall be on the jobsite, except where concrete is ready mixed in accordance with UBC Standard #26-13, the concrete need not be on the site. Where foundation is to be constructed or approved, treated wood, additional inspections may be required by the Building Official.

CONCRETE SLAB OR UNDER FLOOR INSPECTION

To made after all in slab or under floor building service equipment, conduit, piping, accessories or other ancillary equipment items are in place, but before concrete is placed or floor sheathing is installed (includes subfloor).

ROUGH-IN INSPECTIONS

Plumbing. Mechanical mid Electrical rough-in inspections are to be made prior to covering or concealment of any pipes, wires, vents or ductwork and prior to the framing inspection.

FRAMING INSPECTIONS

To be made after the root framing fire blocking, draft stops and bracing are in place and all pipes, chimneys and vents are complete and before installing any insulation material.

FINAL INSPECTIONS

To be made after finish grading and the building is complete and ready for occupancy.

INSPECTION REQUESTS

It shall be the duty of the person doing the work authorized by a permit to notify the Building Official that such work is ready for inspection. The Building Official may require that every request for inspection be filed at least one working day before said inspection is desired. Such request may be in writing or by telephone at the option of Building Official. It shall also be the duty of the person requesting any inspection required by this code to provide safe access to and means for inspection of such work.

APPROVAL REQUIRED

Work shall not be done beyond the point indicated in each successive inspection without first obtaining the approval of the Building Official. The Building Official, upon proper notification, shall make, or cause to be made, the requested inspections and shall indicate that portion of the work is satisfactory as completed or notify the permit holder or agent wherein the same fails to comply with this code. Any portions of work which do not comply shall be corrected and such portion shall not be covered or concealed until authorized by the Building Official. There shall be a final inspection and approval of all buildings and structures when completed, prior to use or occupancy.

STREET ADDRESS

Your street address numbers (3"X1 1/2") must be reflective and displayed within 15 feet of the edge of the roadway and a maximum of 6 feet above the roadway, on the same side as the residence, at the time of final inspection or a Certificate of Occupancy will not be issued (Steuben County Ordinance #697)

ALARM SYSTEMS

Any alarm system which ties into the 911 emergency system shall be installed by a contractor licensed to do so in Steuben County. All owners of buildings with such an alarm system shall obtain a permit to do so from the Steuben County Communications Office. (Steuben County Ordinance #642)
