Office Hours: 24 hours/7 days a week
Most of our work goes without notice. Without exception each and every Coroner gets very little credit for the hours spent completing his or her duties.
Most of the cases which generate media attention are the homicides and accidents involving traffic deaths or death in the workplace.
What the media writes or broadcasts about on television and radio varies from newspaper to magazine and station to station. It is not controlled by the Coroner. Our position is the less said about it the better, with the exception of consumer safety.
Death is a very private affair. A family should be able to address their grief among themselves.
The Coroner in conjunction with law enforcement often will refuse to discuss details. This is to assist law enforcement. It is not to hide the facts about a case. All information that by law can be released will be once the investigation is concluded.
Your Coroner is important, and the way he or she conducts an investigation may have far reaching ramifications. A supposedly natural death may suddenly become a case with criminal implications. A suspected suicide may become an accidental death. A natural death may reveal serious complications which have a genetic origin, and the sons and daughters then can be protected.
The Coroner can and often does unearth facts which can be used to obtain benefits under statutory programs or private contracts. An inquiry by the Coroner may establish legal responsibility for the death. Insurance premiums are generally based on the statistics generated through proper applications of death investigations.
