- What is an autopsy?
- An autopsy is an examination to discover the cause of
death, damage done by disease, etc. and generally includes a surgical
examination of the body. Other experts with specific scientific
expertise are consulted when necessary. Autopsies will provide evidence for
presentation in a court of law, if required.
- Is there a charge associated with an autopsy?
- No
- What about funeral arrangements?
- Contact your funeral director of choice as soon as
possible. Advise them what has happened. The funeral director
will then coordinate further arrangements with the Coroner's office and help
you begin funeral arrangements.
- What if my loved one wanted to be an organ/tissue donor?
- Organ donation requires a medical condition called
"brain death" and for individuals to be connected to life-support
systems. However, depending on your situation, you may be offered the
option to consent to the donation of various tissues.
- Is there a cost involved with donation?
- No
