How to apply for a marriage license
- Both applicants must be 18 or over. If younger, must
have both legal parents' or guardianship signatures. If 16 or younger,
must also have order from court.
- At least one of the applicants must be a resident of White
County (or the county in which one of them lives). If both applicants
are from out of state, they must get their marriage license in the county in
which the ceremony will take place. The fee for out of state
applicants is $60.00.
- All female applicants under the age of 50 must have blue
proof of rubella form signed by a doctor. This form can be picked up
at the clerk's office. If she has school records of rubella shot or
some proof of sterilization, she can take it to the health department in the
basement of the County Building and they will stamp it.
- Each applicant must bring in a driver's license or ID card
or a certified birth certificate as proof of age.
- Both applicants will need to know where their parents were
born and where they live now. It is only required that you know the
state, but if you know the town or county, that would be helpful. They
both will also need to know their mother's maiden name.
- If either applicant has been previously married, they will
need to know the date the last marriage ended.
- Both applicants must come together to apply for the
license. If this is impossible, they must at least come in on the same
day.
- The cost is $18.00 for the application and $2.00 for the certified
copy of the completed license. You will need this for legal purposes,
such as changing name at Social Security. This copy will be sent to
you shortly after the application and license have been returned to the
clerk's office by the person performing the ceremony.
- The application is good immediately when issued and is good
for 60 days.
Best Wishes!!
